Responsibilities


The Decision Science team implements a vast range of statistical modelling and machine learning techniques to predict customer behaviour and optimise every individual’s price to maximise customer value.

The team also works with fraud, marketing and underwriting to produce bespoke models, customer insight and data products in order to effectively target prospects and aid in risk assessment. In addition, we drive innovation and R&D within the organisation to leverage our bespoke and scalable big data platform. Our aim is to become the data and analytics leader in the UK general insurance market.


Responsibilities

  • Develop predictive models and algorithms to support business decisions
  • Work with business domains to help shape the right questions
  • Mine large & growing volumes of data to find actionable insights to drive ongoing improvements
  • Clear presentation of findings and guiding next steps at various points in product lifecycle to senior stakeholders (you’ll be presenting your work directly to the MD)
  • Run optimisations to achieve commercial trading objectives and spot marketopportunities
  • Discover opportunities for technical innovation and test them out in our regular hackathons

 

 

Skills, Qualifications and Experience Required for the Role

 

Requirement

  • A BSc/MSc in Statistics / Computer Science / Physics / Operational Research / Engineering/ Maths or other quantitative field (a PhD is a major plus)
  • Good knowledge of what's "Under the hood" of statistical methods (and preferably knowing how to utilize them in R, Python or equivalent).
  • Strong knowledge of SQL. Experience of Hive advantageous.
  • The desire to learn & keep up with the latest technologies to stay ahead of the curve
  • A hunger to learn and work effectively within a collaborative team
  • Experience of Spark desirable.
