Tell us about your background and what led you to join Hastings Direct

I previously worked for another insurance provider for four years within the Claims team doing a very similar role to the one I do now! I heard about an opening at Hastings Direct through a friend so had a look into the company and the job role, and it seemed right up my street. 

I was looking for progression and I discovered that there were numerous brilliant opportunities to progress within Hastings Direct, whether that be in your department or branching out and gaining valuable experience across the company.  

What training did you receive when you joined? 

When I started my role in Rich FNOL, I began with three weeks of extensive training, followed by an eight week stint in an academy environment with plenty of support, and then a smooth transition into the full department (still with plenty of support). The introduction to life at Hastings was refreshing as the training really gives you the confidence to fulfil your role to your maximum potential.  

What do you enjoy about working here?  

The company has a 4Cs culture (colleagues, customers, company and community) which is really felt in the business and each ‘C’ is equally as important as the other ones – as a colleague, this makes you feel valued by the company. I expressed from an early stage that I was looking to progress here at Hastings and I’ve been given so many different opportunities to get involved in things which are outside of my day-to-day role. For example, I’ve been helping out with recruitment, filling in for my Leader in her absence and attending meetings with internal and external stakeholders to improve processes in FNOL!

What led you to Hastings Direct? 

Hastings Direct was a partner of my previous employer, so I became familiar with the company’s ways and values and always wanted to know more.  

One day I noticed a working from home position in Rich FNOL and it sounded like a brilliant opportunity with a company I am proud to be part of! 

What do you enjoy about working here? 

Hastings Direct for me is a great place to work for many reasons. To start with, the benefit of working from home means we can bring in experienced people from all over the country which I think is great!  

Hastings Direct have been so supportive towards me and my goals, giving me the opportunity to develop, and the company cares about the community and is always participating in charity work. It’s cliché, but Hastings Direct really do care about colleagues, customers, the company and the community. 

What advice would you give someone who’s considering joining the team in FNOL?  

Take each day as it comes: each day is a new day, a new day of learning and building any knowledge gaps. You will have an amazing team around you to guide and support. And, this is your career - make the best of it!
