Meet Donna – a Customer Representative who’s been with Hastings for nearly a decade and currently works part time to balance her role with the needs of her young family. In this week’s blog, she discusses the flexibility her job gives her and why she thinks it a great opportunity for anyone looking for a good work-life balance.

Nearly ten years at Hastings as a Customer Representative
I’ve been working for Hastings Direct for nearly ten years. I finished working at a pub due to it closing down and the very next day I applied online for my role – a week later, I had an interview and an hour later, I was offered the job as full-time agent. After starting a family, I needed to go part time and now work 16 hours a week.

I work during the morning while my daughter is at school and my son is busy playing. I take customer calls, process emails, attend team meetings – all from the comfort of my home. Initially, I found it extremely difficult to balance my daughter being in nursery and going into the office. She was very ill and I had to take a lot of time off work to take her to doctors and hospital appointments.

Working in a job I love
Working from home means I can attend to my job and look after my children – I get to be the attentive mother I need to be, but still work in the job I love. Hastings provides the flexibility to do it all and they are also open to amending shifts to suit my needs, should my circumstances change.

Understanding the needs of working parents
What advice would I give to people thinking of joining Hastings? Do it! I have never worked for a company that better understands the needs of a working parent and part time work gives you the freedom to plan your days and weeks. It’s a great opportunity for other working parents like me, or students wanting an income from a job that can be flexible around studies.

Customers, colleagues, company benefits
I have three things I love most working for Hastings Direct. One, the customers – I really enjoy helping the customers and providing them with a service. Two, the people I work with – I remember what it was like working in the office and your colleagues become your working family. Three, the company benefits you get (i.e., bonus, rewards, and incentives etc) are generous.
