I’ve worked at Hastings Direct since July 2013 and for the majority of the time have worked part time to help fit around childcare. I’ve never struggled with balancing my working hours around childcare as Hastings have always been extremely accommodating with helping me achieve the right work/life balance. They’ve continued to support my hours, especially recently when I had to change them to help fit around my son starting school.

Since opening an additional call centre in South Africa, part-time hours have become even more flexible which has been a big help to me as well as others who are in a similar position to myself.

I don’t feel my part time hours have affected my career opportunities – particularly last year when I became one of the first 100 colleagues to reach level 5 status. This has opened up massive opportunities for me within work and led to me to being chosen to be a part of the Level 3 Senior Customer Representative apprenticeship programme. This course has been great and I have learnt a lot of new things, in addition I have also trained for my IF1, 3 and 4 exams which are highly respected within the insurance and financial industry. 

Overall, Hastings Direct is a great place to work, especially if you’re a working parent or student. The possibilities are endless, regardless of what department you work in and as long as you are prepared to put the work in, you will see success.
