David, Commercial and Strategy Director for Damage tells us why he made the move to join Hastings Direct and what makes it such a dynamic place to work.
Tell us about your career journey to date
I started my career in international banking. I was thrust in at the deep end and spent my first few years working between Africa and Europe, which was a real culture shock for a lad from Leicester! Back in the UK, I took a role in retail banking strategy and credit cards, but this was in a big company that was trying only to maintain its performance. I felt like a small cog in a giant machine and it just wasn’t dynamic enough. I looked for a small, authentic company that was growing quickly – and found Hastings Direct. Seven years later, I’ve never looked back.
Can you tell us a bit about the work your team does at Hastings Direct?
Our goal is to transform the way we manage claims and to become the best in the UK. It’s a big objective, and we design and deliver strategies that help us to achieve it. We look at both the here and now, and the future. Fast forward 3-5 years and the UK car market will look very different than today. We’re determined to be at the forefront of that change. We’re making rapid progress (as is the Hastings way) and we’ll be there soon!
Looking to the future, what are you excited about for Hastings Direct?
Hastings continues to grow quickly, which is great to be a part of. We also have loads of opportunity to grow more. We have a great formula to do this – by giving customers a great price for their insurance and a refreshingly straightforward service.
What makes Hastings Direct different from other places that you’ve worked?
Firstly we have an exciting vision: to be the best and biggest digital insurance provider. It’s clear, it’s ambitious, and we rally around this in a way I’ve not seen in other companies. The three words that best describe Hastings for me would be: dynamic, authentic and fun.
