Our weekly colleague stories give an insight into working life at Hastings Direct. In this week’s blog, Sharmon tell us about her experience of joining Hastings Direct as a full-time employee, having started with us as a part-time basis while completing her studies.
Tell us about your background and what led you to join Hastings Direct
I joined Hastings Direct back in January 2018 after being referred by a friend from school, starting in a part-time Customer Representative role and I was working alongside my studies at college. Once I had finished college, I wasn’t sure whether I wanted to go to university or pursue my career within Hastings Direct. I decided to go with the latter and I am so glad that I did! I switched to a full time role in October 2019 and haven’t looked back!
What does a typical day in Customer Service at Hastings entail for you?
Most days I am on the phone providing help and guidance to our customers. In Customer Service we offer support to our customers throughout their time with us; from the point they take their policy out, right up until they reach their renewal. I have also been given the opportunity to participate in other activities within the business to develop my career.
I was working from home from April until August. It was a strange time for everyone but the support from my team and my team leader was everything I needed to get through it. We made lots of changes to the ways that we were working in order to help our customers and the community.
What advice would you give to someone looking to develop their career at Hastings?
Go for it! There are endless opportunities in various departments and roles to develop your career at Hastings and you will always have a mountain of support available for whatever you decide to do.
What do you love most about working for Hastings Direct?
I love my colleagues the most – there’s such a diverse collection of people and each and every one of us works together to ensure we can support our customers as much as we possibly can. When transitioning from part-time to full-time, I was super nervous about joining a new team but everyone was so welcoming and I have built amazing friendships with people in my team that I hope will continue to flourish.
