Wellbeing is an important part of life at Hastings. Our annual wellbeing festival ‘Wellfest’ gives colleagues the opportunity to attend talks and activities on a wide variety of wellbeing subjects including manging finances, mindful foods and the importance of sleep. Held virtually, Wellfest 2021 also focused on support and advice to address the anxieties and concerns many may have after working at home for over a year due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Colleagues were also treated to some great guest speakers during the lunchtime sessions including an interview with Paralympian David Weir and a live cookalong with TV chef Kwoklyn Wan.

Here’s an overview of just some of our Wellfest 2021 virtual sessions, along with feedback received from our colleagues.

Thrive discussed potential fears and concerns some may have returning to the office and highlighted some tools to help when facing change.

Managing money through change – delivered by nudge
Managing your finances after lockdown can be tricky for some. Colleagues heard more on how they can adapt and budget to ensure that they are in control of their money, instead of the other way around.

“I don’t budget enough and this workshop has prompted me to do it more.”

In conversation with David Weir CBE
Eight London Marathon wins, six Olympic medals and one of the best GB athletes of all time, David Weir discussed his career and achievements and spoke openly about mental health and not letting his disability hold him back from being the best in the world.

“Thank you so much David – so inspirational to hear your story – thoroughly enjoyed this – we are so lucky to have had you here today! Good luck for Tokyo!”

COVID and the Pandemic Aftermath – delivered by Health Management
Dr Mark Simpson discussed long COVID and what is known, so far, about the effects of the virus. He also outlined the signs and symptoms to look out for and help combat the condition, hopefully getting people back to living their lives to the full again.

Cook-along live with Kwoklyn Wan
Colleagues joined TV chef Kwoklyn Wan for a virtual live cookery lesson, preparing and cooking his famous black bean chicken/mushroom stir-fry.

“I’m quite surprised something this delicious has come out of my kitchen!”
