Over the past four weeks, our wellbeing team have been marking World Menopause Month by helping to raise awareness about this natural and under-discussed stage of life and provide support for colleagues with guest speakers at our Menopause Cafés.

Supported by nutritionist and menopause expert Tammy Gee, topics discussed at sessions held for colleagues this month have included:

•    How to talk to a GP about the menopause.
•    Breathing techniques to manage symptoms of menopause.
•    The unique characteristics of perimenopause and beyond for black women.
•    Midlife weight gain and how to prevent it, as well as exercises that are useful for perimenopausal woman.

Tammy Gee, Seven Colours of Nutrition (pictured), said: “I am so happy to be part of menopause awareness at Hastings Direct. The Menopause Cafés play a fantastic role in encouraging conversations around menopause in the workplace and offering support to anyone who may otherwise be overwhelmed by menopause information or not really know where to turn to talk about their symptoms.

“Sharing conversation, sharing stories, sharing experiences is a great way to understand how to approach changes to our body and take away the fear of the unknown or certainly the limited information that left many thinking that menopause meant hot flushes at the age of 50. Menopause is so much more than this, with symptoms that may have negative effects on both mental and physical health, and there are so many ways to support people during this time. The great news is that Hastings Direct is working hard to encourage these conversations and offer support and understanding to anyone navigating menopause.”

Annette is one of our Wellbeing Champions and she shared her thoughts on the support provided by our Wellbeing Cafés: “Menopause symptoms can be really debilitating – hot flushes, extreme sweating, difficulty sleeping and tiredness can all affect the individual’s mood. Our Menopause Cafés have been informative and provide ideas for colleagues to help manage the symptoms. I am so proud and grateful to work for a company that truly delivers on colleague wellbeing, and this is why I continue to be a wellbeing champion.”
