Meet Sam, a Senior Product Test Engineer who initially joined us in 2015 as a Customer Representative. In this week’s blog, Sam tells us about his career journey since joining Hastings and why his thinks the Software Tester role that we’re currently recruiting for is a great opportunity. My career journey to date I joined Hastings Direct in 2015 working part time in the call centre whilst studying A levels at college. Once I had finished my studies, I transferred to a full time role. I became interested in why insurance prices change and differ on a day-to-day basis. That initially led me to apply for a role in Retail Pricing, implementing and testing price changes. I’ve subsequently moved into Underwriting Services in the Product Development team. A role with real impact It’s really very rewarding knowing that testing and implementing a change has a direct impact on prices that in turn endeavours to make the company more competitive and profitable. I feel the role has a real impact. It can be a very fast paced environment to work in – there is no such thing as a boring day! I joined the Product Development team during the start of the first lockdown. Therefore, I have yet to meet some of my colleagues. However, I feel that the frequent calls and group chats have allowed me to connect with them. The team has a widespread range of different skills and it’s great to be able to bounce ideas off other colleagues. If you want to develop and improve your skillset, I don’t believe there is a better place than Hastings Direct. No day is the same The insurance industry is continually evolving and becoming more competitive, so we must be inventive and innovative to stay ahead of the curve. No day is the same and you are constantly learning new approaches to testing. If you’re considering the Software Tester role, I would say just go for it!
