How we work

At Hastings Direct, you can shape the way you work best and we thrive in a diverse working environment. We recognise that some people have unique circumstances, and depending on how your team operates, we’ll look to offer a blend of working at home and one of our Bexhill-on-Sea, Leicester or London offices.

As a team, we believe that a flexible, team-spirited environment where individuals pull together makes a great working environment, even in times of pressure. We love to watch people grow and reach their full potential.

We offer Microsoft ESI learning pathways for colleagues who wish to expand their knowledge in cloud capabilities. This is designed to help you upskill independently and taken on new challenges you haven’t before. Colleagues also have access to a variety of development platforms and training such as Pluralsight, ServiceNow Learning and Guidewire Learning.

For new colleagues just starting out in their careers, we invest in our graduates by offering a two year rotational programme in all areas of tech such as cloud engineering, platform maintenance and architecture. This means our younger talent receive an extensive amount of experience so that they can go on to become engineers, developers, project managers and more.

We also offer a summer internship – by creating a relationship with students to kickstart their career, we provide an insight to working environments within technology and the opportunity to work on real life tasks, with the potential to extend their internship to a place on the graduate scheme the following year.

Meet some of the team

Matt, Solution Architect

I'm a Solution Architect at Hastings Direct, working as part of a team who’re designing and building cloud-based platforms and services. The work is incredibly varied and we're using the latest technologies to deliver modern solutions for our colleagues and customers. It’s a very busy environment, with great collaboration between all of our teams. The rate of change is rapid which makes it a vibrant and exciting place to work. Hastings has a fantastic approach to continuous personal development and time is allocated to learn new skills, along with access to exclusive training materials and free-to-take cloud certifications.

Phil, Lead Power Platform Developer

I am Lead Power Platform Developer for Hastings and have been in this role for almost a year – this is my first technology role and I’m loving it. My background is in Risk and Compliance, but I fancied a change after ten years in that field. So, I moved across to Cloud Engineering and haven’t looked back. I like working at HD because of the flexibility and autonomy; I can really push myself to achieve more each day utilising the latest technology to solve business challenges and see my work in action.

Ella, IT Change Analyst

I love working at Hastings as a Change Analyst – with no background in technology, I was given the opportunity to learn new skills and join an evolving department. The nature of my work is fast-paced and ever changing, especially with the move to cloud, which is giving me the ability to work with a range of different teams and gain new insights to help build my career. Every colleague I work with is friendly and approachable which is a great working environment. Hastings is great for recognising and rewarding hard work, making you feel valued within the company.
