The support given to me from the Recruitment team and around the head office in Bexhill has been incredible. I’ve needed a lot of support and guidance since starting in November 2019, as this has been my first job since losing my sight. I moved from the Isle of Man to study BSc Mathematics at the University of Derby in 2016. After graduating, I jumped at the opportunity to join Hastings Direct as a Trainee Actuary and joined the Underwriting Services team in January 2020. I have never fitted in somewhere so quickly and comfortably as I have here, everyone is so friendly and I’m proud to be a part of that open and welcoming culture. Having just completed my A levels, my intention was to join a local company for a brief stint while I figured out what I do with myself. 21 years later and here I am, having just been promoted to Underwriting Services Managing Director at Hastings Direct! My first job at Hastings was actually in telesales but my curiosity lead me into Underwriting a couple of years into my tenure here. Understanding why some customers paid more or less than others was fascinating to me - I learnt that the answers could be found in the data and this very quickly became my passion.
