To develop high-performing and motivated teams, it’s essential to have good foundations for learning and development. We caught up with Simon and Nicole from our Learning and Development (L&D) team to tell us a little about themselves and this growing department!
Meet Simon and Nicole
Talk us through your background and what led you to Hastings Direct
Simon: I have 23 years’ experience at insurance companies, working across both claims and commercial lines. My passion has always been developing people to help them achieve potential they might not even know they had! Joining Hastings Direct has given me a unique opportunity to continue to do this with people that genuinely care about great outcomes for customers, colleagues, the company and our community.
Nicole: I’ve worked in insurance companies for 17 years, both within claims and L&D to support colleagues technical and leadership development. I am a huge advocate for personal development which led me to working with people to support their growth journey. Hastings Direct embodies these same values which creates a stimulating environment to work in.
What has your journey been like at HD so far?
Simon: I joined in October 2023 and have been instantly struck by how brilliant the people are that work here. It's a pacey, ambitious organisation that empowers you to do your best work.
Nicole: I started at Hastings on the 2nd January 2024, and so far my journey has been fast paced! There is a lot of change and ambition at Hastings Direct which makes it a very exciting place to be a part of.
Why is it an exciting time to join HD?
Simon: L&D at Hastings is currently in a transformational space, with significant investment and focus on creating best-in-class training. Working within L&D gives you the opportunity to help shape learning interventions as well as support colleagues with their ongoing development. Hastings has ambitious growth plans to increase our customer base, alongside equipping our colleagues with the skills and expertise to do this is a primary initiative within L&D.
What are you looking forward to most in 2024?
Nicole: I am most excited about the prospect of building a team of trainers who share my passion and enthusiasm for learning, and developing a culture of curiosity.
Simon: Re-imagining the way people learn; creating and delivering highly engaging learning that delivers value to both colleague and customer and becoming known as the best L&D team in insurance… and having some fun while we do it!
